President William Ruto recently decided to retain Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi in his position despite a significant Cabinet reshuffle. This move aims to ensure government continuity amid growing tensions with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Sources show that President Ruto’s decision reflects his trust in Mudavadi’s capabilities during challenging times for the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Mudavadi,will continue to oversee the principal secretaries (PSs) and coordinating ministry activities until the president the new Cabinet. He heads the National Development Implementation Committee. Reliable sources indicate that Gachagua is not in consideration dependable for this role. Which led to Mudavadi, with his extensive executive experience, being chosen to manage the PSs.
Since President Ruto assumed office, Mudavadi has seen his political career progress positively. In October of the previous year, he got the appointment to the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs docket.Securing him a spot in the National Security Council. This council includes the President, Deputy President, and key Cabinet Secretaries. For Defence, Foreign Affairs, and Internal Security, alongside other top security officials.
Mudavadi’s political journey began early, becoming the youngest Cabinet Minister at 29 in 1989. He has conciliatory approach and is also a voice of reason within the Kenya Kwanza administration. Unlike many political leaders who hesitated to give up their party positions after securing state roles, Mudavadi resigned as the Amani National Congress leader. Some political analysts speculate that Mudavadi could potentially replace Gachagua in the 2027 election. However, Mudavadi remains focused on his current responsibilities, emphasizing that future election speculation is a distraction from the critical work at hand.
