Trump Asserts Right to Challenge 2020 Election

Former President Donald Trump, now facing charges for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election, insists he had “every right” to interfere. In a Fox News interview on Sunday, Trump questioned the legality of his indictment. He asked, “Whoever heard of indicting someone for interfering in an election where they have every right to do it?”

Federal Charges

Prosecutors indicted Trump for allegedly defrauding the U.S. by blocking Congress from certifying Biden’s victory and denying voters a fair election. They recently updated the charges, accusing Donald of illegally trying to overturn his 2020 loss. Georgia authorities also charged him with racketeering, a crime often linked to organized crime, which could lead to a 20-year prison sentence.

Georgia Case

In the Georgia case, now on hold, Donald called Georgia’s top election official, Brad Raffensperger, on January 2, 2021. He urged Raffensperger to “find” enough votes to reverse his loss, but Raffensperger refused. Trump has not committed to accepting the election results if Kamala Harris, his Democratic rival, wins on November 5.
