An accident occurred on the Kapsabet-Eldoret Highway in the Mutwot area on Friday, January 10, 2025. A 14-seater passenger vehicle lost control and collided with an oncoming school bus from Cheptabach Secondary School, leaving at least four people dead and ten others critically injured.
The crash took place around 10 p.m. A man, two women, and a child died on the spot. Most victims were from Nandi Hills and had hired the school bus after attending a public event.
The health centre treated the injured at Mosoriot Health Centre, and they were later discharged. The authorities took the deceased to Kapsabet Hospital mortuary. Social media footage showed the school bus with a broken windscreen and side mirrors.
Police towed both vehicles to Mosoriot Police Station and launched an investigation. Witnesses reported that the passenger vehicle was speeding when it lost control.
Hours later, another accident occurred on the Londiani-Muhoroni road. A bus traveling from Mombasa to Busia lost control and rolled over. Three people died, and 44 were injured.
Agnes Kunga, the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), confirmed that the Londiani-Muhoroni accident happened while the bus was negotiating a corner. Police arrested the bus driver. The authorities took the victims, including the deceased, to Londiani-Sub-County Hospital. Investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
