The Nairobi City County Assembly meeting exposed that the county lacks title deeds for two affordable housing projects. Urban Planning Executive Patrick Mbogo revealed that former Governor Mike Sonko still holds the Jevanjee Estate title deed. Sonko took the deed in 2018 but did not return it after his impeachment.
Kitisuru Ward Rep Alvin Olando Palapala led the committee in questioning the missing Pangani Estate title deed. This issue raises concerns about county property security and investor confidence. Majority Leader Peter Imwatok and Minority Leader Anthony Kiragu urged Sonko to explain why he still holds the Jevanjee deed.
The county has only completed 160 of the 1,562 planned housing units in Pangani, leaving residents waiting. Though the county promises to finish by 2026, officials remain doubtful. The committee refuses to back new projects until they resolve the title deed issues and finish ongoing projects. They demand accountability for the billions of shillings already spent without results.
