TikTok’s Future in U.S. Uncertain as Elon Musk Considered a Buyer

TikTok’s Future in U.S. Uncertain as Elon Musk Considered a Buyer
If ByteDance does not sell TikTok by Sunday, January 19, 2025, the app will face a U.S. ban. Federal law mandates the sale or shutdown of the platform. Chinese officials are considering selling TikTok’s U.S. operations to Elon Musk if the ban proceeds. Bloomberg reported these discussions, but they remain preliminary. ByteDance prefers to keep ownership and dismissed the report as “pure fiction.”
Supreme Court To Review TikTok Ban
TikTok’s Future in U.S

The Supreme Court recently reviewed the law requiring TikTok’s sale or ban. Justices seemed likely to uphold the law due to national security concerns. Project Liberty proposed rebuilding TikTok’s U.S. infrastructure to protect user privacy. The plan removes reliance on TikTok’s current algorithm.

Kevin O’Leary, a “Shark Tank” investor, has shown interest in buying TikTok. He seeks support from President-elect Donald Trump. However, the Justice Department urged the court to enforce the law. Officials rejected TikTok’s efforts to delay the ban. Trump opposed the ban, saying he could negotiate a political solution after his inauguration.

The controversy started in April 2024. President Joe Biden signed a law requiring TikTok to sell its U.S. operations or face a ban. Congress passed the bill with strong bipartisan support. Lawmakers emphasized concerns over privacy and foreign interference.

As the January deadline nears, TikTok’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain. The Supreme Court’s decision will decide if the app continues or faces a ban
