The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) is urging teachers to boycott exam duties if their allowances do not change. Secretary-General Akelo Misori demands Sh4,000 per day and proper accommodation for those overseeing exams.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) currently pays supervisors and centre managers between Sh400 and Sh500 daily. Exam markers earn just Sh150. Misori criticized these payments, saying casual laborers earn more for less demanding work.
At a recent event in Embu County, Misori warned that teachers might withdraw from exam duties if Knec does not increase the allowances before late October. He noted that headteachers earn only Sh500 daily, while deputies receive nothing. Misori also expressed concerns about how reduced education funding affects hiring, promotions, and infrastructure. Kuppet remains committed to fighting for fair treatment and better conditions for educators.
