Suspected Boko Haram Kill 40 Farmers in Borno, Nigeria

A deadly attack in Borno State, Nigeria, killed about 40 farmers. Officials suspect Boko Haram militants, who frequently target the Lake Chad region, were behind the attack. The attack happened in Dumba, near the Chad border, outside a designated safe farming zone. This area is known for militant activity and landmines. Authorities are tracing survivors who fled to reunite them with their families.

The Borno State government also ordered Nigerian troops to pursue and eliminate the attackers. Governor Babagana Umara Zulum condemned the attack and urged Operation Hadin Kai forces to target insurgent camps in Dumba and nearby areas.

“This violence against innocent farmers is unacceptable,” Zulum said. “We must protect our people and eliminate these threats.”

The attack also shows recent insecurity in the region. It has disrupted farming and displaced many people. While safe zones exist, areas outside them remain vulnerable to militants.

Also, Military operations against Boko Haram and other groups have intensified. The focus is on their hideouts and logistics in the Lake Chad area. The government urges locals to report any suspicious activity.

This attack stresses the need for stronger security to protect farmers and ensure food security. Authorities are also committed to preventing further tragedies and reuniting survivors with their families.
