Starlink has launched a cheaper, portable version of its satellite internet service in Kenya. The company announced the update on X. Users can now access high-speed internet at home or on the go. The new package, called Starlink Mini, became available for local subscribers on June 21 this year.
The Starlink Mini kit costs Sh27,000. This is lower than the Sh45,500 price of the standard package. While the hardware kit price has changed, the monthly service fees remain unchanged. The fees are Sh6,500 for residential subscriptions, Sh4,000 for residential lite, and Sh1,300 for the limited 50GB package.
The Mini kit features integrated Wi-Fi and a pipe adapter mount for easy installation. It is ideal for basic internet needs. The compact design covers up to 112 square meters. The kit includes everything needed to get online quickly and uses low power.
Starlink reduced the installation price to Sh45,500 earlier this year. The company also introduced the 50GB package in June. This launch reflects Starlink’s efforts to expand in Kenya’s internet market. Safaricom currently dominates, holding a 37.4 percent market share as of March this year.
Starlink now offers a rental option for the hardware kit at Sh1,950 per month. This allows users to avoid the upfront cost. In response, Safaricom is improving its fiber internet speeds by up to five times to retain its customer base and protect its revenues.
