Rigathi Gachagua continues to fight a court case challenging his removal from office. State officials managing government accounts have deleted the official online presence of his office. Although the courts still legally recognize him as Deputy President, they erased content identifying him in the role.
The Deputy President’s official X account has lost its blue verification tick, leaving it open to impersonation. This may result from non-payment of X’s monthly fee. Other government accounts, including the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s, have also lost their verification marks.
X introduced the blue tick in 2022 after Elon Musk’s takeover to verify official accounts. Despite the deletion, Gachagua’s personal account remains verified, with X still acknowledging his position as Deputy President.
Officials created the Deputy President’s office account in March 2022 when Gachagua took office. They used it to share official engagements, separate from the account President William Ruto used when he was Deputy President. If the court removes Gachagua, his successor will likely create a new official X account, as the current one has been deleted.
