Several killed at Solingen street party in Germany

Several killed in stabbing at Solingen street party. On Friday, a knife assault in Solingen, western Germany, killed three people and badly injured four others. The culprit is on the run, according to a police spokesman in Düsseldorf.

According to media accounts, a man attacked passers by at random with a knife during an event commemorating the city’s 650th anniversary. Even  though, as per the local daily Solinger Tageblatt, three individuals were killed and several more were in critical condition.

According to Philipp Müller, one of the co-organizers, paramedics are struggling to save nine people’s lives.

The festival temporarily suspended. Sirens  heard in the downtown area, and helicopters were visible overhead.

Police declared a manhunt.

The event occurred at Fronhof, a city-center market place with a live music stage. Besides, the Solinger Tageblatt reports that authorities have advised citizens to leave the city center.

The police have issued a strong alert and launched a manhunt. Armed officers are currently on the site, cordoning off major portions of the city. There are barriers across the city.

Additionally, Road connections are fully closed, and inhabitants are being encouraged to stay home and avoid the city center, according to the outlet.

Solingen has a population of approximately 160,000. It is near the larger cities of Cologne and Düsseldorf in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populated state.
