Safaricom has significantly increased its home fibre internet speeds, responding to competition from Starlink. The telecom giant now offers up to five times faster speeds without additional costs. Customers can enjoy 15 Mbps, 30 Mbps, 80 Mbps, and 500 Mbps, with a new 1,000 Mbps plan available for Sh20,000 per month, aimed at high-speed users like gamers and content creators.
Safaricom is the first Kenyan ISP, besides Starlink, to offer retail speeds over 100 Mbps. The company has also expanded its mobile and home Internet plan to support up to five users under a family plan.
With these enhancements, Safaricom aims to solidify its position as the leading internet service provider in Kenya. The move not only addresses current market competition but also positions the company to better serve the evolving needs of its customers in a digital landscape that demands higher speeds and more reliable connectivity
CEO Peter Ndegwa said the upgrades address increased customer demand and aim to provide reliable service and better value. Starlink continues to grow its presence in Kenya, offering discounts and hardware rentals.
