Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine, targeting the country’s power infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed. This attack is the largest of its kind since early September, with explosions reported across the country.
Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha stated that the strikes had hit peaceful cities and sleeping civilians, along with critical infrastructure. He stated that authorities enforced emergency blackouts in Kyiv and two other eastern regions, sparking concerns about enduring another harsh winter without stable power
Zelensky reported on Telegram that Russia launched around 120 missiles and 90 drones during the assault.
In southern Ukraine, the city of Mykolaiv suffered significant damage, with at least two people killed and several others injured. The Black Sea port city of Odesa experienced a complete power outage. In Kyiv, missile and drone fragments fell in various parts of the capital, but no injuries were reported.
Poland, Ukraine’s western neighbor, took precautionary measures by scrambling fighter jets to patrol its airspace. Poland’s Operational Command explained that the Russian strikes, which included cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones, targeted sites in western Ukraine, prompting air patrols to ensure regional security.
