To strengthen their economic and political ties, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Turkmenistan on Friday.
Putin seeks closer ties with countries in the Global East and South. This comes amid growing tensions between Russia, the U.S., and the EU over the Ukraine conflict. He invited Pezeshkian to visit Russia during the BRICS summit in Kazan from October 22 to 24. Pezeshkian accepted the invitation. He noted the steady growth of their economic and cultural connections.
Pezeshkian emphasized the need to speed up cooperation between Iran and Russia. He highlighted both leaders’ commitment to strengthen these ties. Later, Russia’s TASS news agency reported that Pezeshkian confirmed agreements to advance projects. These projects include gas, infrastructure, energy, and petrochemicals.
Last month, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to deepening ties with Russia. He stressed that this move counters Western sanctions. Both nations are close to signing a strategic partnership agreement. This deal marks a significant step in their alliance. (Reuters)
