President William Ruto has warned of declining moral values due to the misuse of digital platforms. He stated that some people promote anti-social behaviors on social media, weakening societal norms.
During his New Year address at Kisii State Lodge, he called for collective efforts to preserve social cohesion. He urged faith-based organizations, schools, and law enforcement to help families raise responsible citizens.
President Ruto linked his concerns to rising abductions of government critics. Missing individuals include Billy Mwangi, Kelvin Muthoni, Ronny Kiplagat, Steve Kavingo Mbisi, Gideon Kibet, Peter Muteti and Bernard Kavuli. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reported 82 abductions since June. Out of these, 29 people remain missing.
Seven new cases emerged in the past two weeks. Despite public demands for accountability, no officers linked to abductions or extrajudicial killings face prosecution. Inspector General Douglas Kanja denied police involvement, but families remain devastated.
The President acknowledged extrajudicial killings by security forces. He promised ongoing investigations but cautioned that freedoms have limits. “Public safety and order must always supersede unchecked liberty,” he said.
Dr. Ruto urged parents to guide their children through modern challenges. He called on society to nurture citizens who value unity, democracy, and the rule of law. He emphasized building a strong moral foundation for future generations.
