Raila Odinga paused for prayer at the Bomas of Kenya as the AU chairmanship election approached. ODM women leaders organized the event to show unity and spiritual support. ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga led the gathering and praised Odinga’s commitment.
“You have stood with the women of this country, and that is why we are standing with you,” Wanga said.
Political tensions surfaced when Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja attended. He wore an ODM orange scarf but paired it with a UDA-colored tie. Makadara MP George Aladwa joked, “Sakaja, I think you are ready to cross over to this side.” Wanga agreed and urged Sakaja to consider it.
Sakaja later removed his tie, fueling speculation about his loyalty. Odinga dismissed the rumors and expressed confidence in him. “I want to leave Nairobi in safe hands, with this young man here,” he said.
Odinga also addressed national issues. He condemned the rising abductions under President William Ruto’s administration, calling them unconstitutional.
With the AU election just days away, Odinga remained optimistic. He assured his supporters that he would accept the outcome, no matter the result.
“I will go for the AU elections on Saturday. If I win, well and good. If I don’t, so be it. I am confident that, with God’s will, we shall succeed. If we win, we have succeeded. If we lose, we have also succeeded,” he said.
