NYS Recruits to Get Firearms Training

National Youth Service (NYS) recruits will soon undergo firearms training, President Ruto announced. He directed Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi to work with Defence CS Soipan Tuya and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki. Their task is to add a firearms course to the current paramilitary training program.

This initiative aims to prepare recruits for national security operations whenever needed. President Ruto stressed the importance of equipping these recruits with basic firearms skills. This training will ensure they are ready to defend the country when called upon.

The announcement was made during the recruits’ passing out parade at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

President Ruto reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transforming the NYS. He spoke about improving service terms and enhancing organizational efficiency. Ruto also emphasized efforts to expand NYS recruit intake for greater inclusivity. Additionally, he discussed developing a sustainable business model to ensure the organization’s long-term success.

He also highlighted the crucial role of NYS in public service delivery and national security. The government remains dedicated to recruiting NYS graduates into the Kenya Defence Forces. Efforts are also ongoing to secure employment opportunities for them both locally and internationally.

Additional to that, President Ruto outlined NYS’s involvement in environmental conservation through the Greening Kenya initiative. He instructed security agencies to prioritize NYS graduates in their recruitment processes. The President commended the recruits for their discipline and urged them to uphold the values learned during their training.
