The NIS reported that 1,500 troops arrived in Russia for military training. They will likely head to the front lines in Ukraine. This development shows the growing military partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang.
North Korean soldiers have been seen in Russia’s far east. They were receiving uniforms and equipment. Footage from the Ukrainian Center for Strategic Communication shows these soldiers in line for uniforms. Although the audio is unclear, they seem to be speaking Korean.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky raised concerns about North Korea’s direct involvement in the conflict. He said North Korea is preparing to send around 10,000 soldiers, including ground forces and technical personnel. He called the situation urgent and discussed it with NATO and the United States.
South Korean media suggested that North Korea might send a total of 12,000 troops. The NIS has not confirmed this figure. If true, this would mark a major step by North Korea into the conflict. Despite having one of the world’s largest militaries, North Korea’s troops lack combat experience.
The alliance between North Korea and Russia has grown stronger since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Both nations deny arms transfers, but evidence suggests otherwise. During a June visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to North Korea, the two countries agreed on a defense pact. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un fully supported Russia’s actions in Ukraine, framing them as efforts to protect sovereignty and stability. These developments have solidified the ties between the two countries. (Courtesy of CNN)
