North Korea Rejects Allegations of Military Support for Russia

North Korea rejected accusations of military cooperation with Russia, calling them baseless rumors. The country claimed the allegations aimed to damage its image and relations with other nations. A North Korean representative made the statement during a United Nations meeting.

Meanwhile, the United States responded cautiously. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that if the reports were true, it would be a serious matter. He also noted that over 350,000 Russian soldiers had died since the Ukraine invasion began.

South Korean intelligence reported that North Korea planned to send 12,000 troops to support Russia in Ukraine. They said 1,500 special forces were already in Russia’s Far East. South Korea condemned North Korea, accusing it of supplying weapons to Russia. Satellite images showed Russian ships loading cargo in North Korean ports.

South Korea’s First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kim Hong Kyun, expressed concerns to the Russian ambassador. He warned of a coordinated international response.

Russia defended its cooperation with North Korea. It claimed the partnership followed international law and did not threaten South Korea’s security. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol discussed the issue with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. South Korea pledged to share intelligence and increase defense cooperation with Ukraine and NATO .
