Muturi Accuses NIS and President Ruto of Involvement in Son’s Abduction

Muturi Accuses NIS and President Ruto of Involvement in Son's Abduction

Public Service and Human Capital Development Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has accused the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and President William Ruto’s administration of abducting his son, Leslie Muturi, in June. Muturi claims his son was released after President Ruto called NIS Director-General Noordin Haji.

In his official statement to the police, Muturi directly challenges the government. The statement adds complexity to the ongoing mystery of abductions in the country. The government denies involvement but links the kidnappings to anti-government social media activity. Human rights groups report over 82 abductions since June 2024, with more than 20 still missing, including Leslie.

Muturi explained that after hearing of his son’s abduction on June 22, he called several senior officials for help. He reached out to then-Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki (current DP), Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, NIS Chief Noordin Haji, and others, but received no response. According to Muturi, it was only after President Ruto intervened that his son was freed.

Muturi described the abduction. Armed men emerged from a white Prado and forced Leslie into their vehicle after he had been out with friends in Kilimani. Initially, law enforcement suggested it was a robbery, but the abduction seemed coordinated. Muturi later confirmed with an NIS contact that his son was in their custody.

Muturi’s statement is a shock amid the ongoing abduction crisis. His public condemnation of the government and plea for action reflect his deep frustration as a parent caught in the crisis.
