MPs Mwangi, Gakuya, 3 others charged over anti-government protests. Five individuals are to face charges for their alleged involvement in organizing, coordinating, and providing funding for the youth-led anti-government rallies in June. This is according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Further more, the investigative agency claims to have received intelligence reports. The alleged MPs are Benjamin Gathiru Mwangi (Embakasi Central) and James Mwangi Gakuya (Embakasi North). Besides,the meetings occurred at Hotel Boulevard in the heart of Nairobi. The agency wrote a letter to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on September 26. Mwangi, Gakuya, George Theuri (Embakasi West), Martin Deric Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri), and Pius G. Munene are the individuals the DCI wishes to prosecute with conspiring to conduct a criminal in violation of Penal Code section 393.
Additionally, DCI wants Mwangi to be prosecuted for money laundering in violation of sections 3, 4, and 7. As of the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act, as well as for encouraging or encouraging others to commit crimes in violation of section 391 of the Penal Code.
According to DCI, attempts are being made to acquire all financial information from banks, Safaricom, and the Financial Reporting Centre (FRC), where the alleged financial transactions were conducted.
