Max Verstappen has clinched his fourth consecutive F1 World Championship after finishing fifth at the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix. With McLaren’s Lando Norris coming in sixth, Verstappen’s lead in the standings became mathematically unbeatable, securing the title with two races still to go. As a result, he has now cemented his place as one of the sport’s greats.
This victory makes Verstappen only the sixth driver in F1 history to win four straight championships, joining icons like Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Juan Manuel Fangio, and Alain Prost. Such an achievement further solidifies his legacy in the sport.
Although Verstappen didn’t win the race, his consistent performance ensured he remained out of reach in the standings. Meanwhile, Mercedes’ George Russell claimed victory in a dominant pole-to-flag drive, with teammate Lewis Hamilton finishing second. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished third, and Charles Leclerc took fourth, just ahead of Verstappen.
Reflecting on his achievement, Verstappen said over team radio, “What a season. Four times. Thank you guys. Thank you to everyone,” acknowledging that this season had been tougher than last year, but his team pulled through.
In the Constructors’ Championship, Ferrari’s strong results have closed the gap to McLaren to 24 points. As a result, the battle for second place remains tight with just two races left. As Verstappen celebrates his fourth title, attention now shifts to the final rounds of the 2024 season.
