Luigi Mangione Transferred to New York to Face Murder Charges

Blair County District Attorney Peter Weeks confirmed Luigi Mangione’s extradition. Mangione is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Mangione waived extradition during a court appearance in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on Thursday. Police transferred him to the custody of New York officers. He will be flown to New York. Luigi faces first-degree and second-degree murder charges. He also faces terrorism-related charges.

Officers escorted Mangione from the courthouse in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs. He stayed silent as he entered a black unmarked vehicle. The transfer occurred under strict security.

Luigi attended two hearings earlier that day. The first addressed forgery and firearms charges in Pennsylvania. The second focused on his extradition. Mangione replied “yes” when asked if he wished to waive extradition.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg accused Mangione of a calculated act of terror. Bragg said the killing aimed to evoke fear and cause terror.

Luigi may also face federal charges. His lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, promised to challenge the charges.

Mangione has remained in Pennsylvania since his arrest. Authorities say he will likely stay at Rikers Island before his trial in New York.

Mangione’s first court appearance in New York is expected soon. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment without parole. (CNN)
