Looters disrupted aid efforts in Gaza, seizing nearly 100 trucks in southern Gaza. The trucks carried food supplies for UNRWA and the World Food Programme. Armed attackers forced drivers to unload the supplies, injuring workers and damaging vehicles. UNRWA described the incident as a major disruption to its operations.
The convoy followed an unfamiliar route based on Israeli military advice. UNRWA blamed the chaos on lawlessness and Israeli actions. Delays and frequent attacks on shipments have worsened the agency’s challenges.
Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV reported that Gaza security forces killed over 20 people linked to looting aid trucks but did not confirm their involvement in Saturday’s attack. Local Palestinian groups also condemned the looters for harming civilians’ access to food and supplies.
Civilians in Gaza face severe hunger as aid delays persist. UN officials warn of a deepening humanitarian crisis. An Israeli law banning UNRWA operations in occupied territories, including East Jerusalem, will further restrict aid delivery.
UNRWA Chief Philippe Lazzarini criticized the risks faced by aid workers and condemned harassment by Israeli soldiers. He stressed the importance of the agency’s role in providing aid.
Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed many, including 17 members of one family. These attacks intensified calls to end the violence. (CNN)
