The conflict in Lebanon is endangering children’s lives. Many now suffer severe injuries and deep emotional trauma. Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health reports 166 child deaths and 1,168 injuries since October 2023. This number rises daily.
Hezbollah, a powerful political and military organization based in Lebanon, has significant influence in the country and is closely aligned with Iran. The group has clashed with Israeli forces intermittently, especially amid rising regional tensions and conflicts involving Israel and Palestinian groups in Gaza.
Since October 4, each day claims one child’s life and leaves 10 others injured. Children who survived physical harm now face intense psychological distress from constant bombings.
UNICEF highlights alarming signs of trauma among children. They show fear, anxiety, aggression, nightmares, and sleep problems. School closures remove safe spaces, worsening their mental health and stability.
Long-term violence severely harms children’s mental and physical health. Since September 2024, UNICEF has provided emergency psychological aid to over 9,600 children and caregivers. Community support has reached nearly 10,000 more. But true recovery cannot begin until the conflict ends.
A ceasefire is essential to protect Lebanon’s children. They need safe access to services and a chance to heal. Ending the violence is vital for their future.
