Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned the United States about potential missile deliveries to Ukraine. He said the US should not dismiss Russia’s “red lines” as jokes. Lavrov believes the US is disrupting the balance of mutual deterrence that has kept relations stable since the Cold War.
He commented on reports that the US might supply Ukraine with long-range JASSM cruise missiles. These missiles could reach deep into Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been pushing for this aid. Lavrov expressed his concern, stating, “The Americans have already crossed their own limits.”
Lavrov added that Zelenskiy is taking advantage of the situation. He warned the US not to underestimate Russia’s red lines. President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned Western nations against opposing Russia since the start of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022. Zelenskiy has criticized Putin’s red lines, especially after Ukraine’s incursion into Russia on August 6.
Despite these warnings, the US and its allies have increased military aid to Ukraine. This includes tanks, advanced missiles, and F-16 fighter jets. Some Western officials now question if Putin’s nuclear threats are genuine. They suggest that the US and NATO should boost their support for Ukraine.
