The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) insists that the teachers’ strike will continue, despite a court order to halt it. KUPPET warned parents that sending their children to school during the strike is at their own risk. The High Court issued an order on Tuesday to suspend the strike after a case was filed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
KUPPET Secretary-General Akello Misori confirmed that the union received the court order. He stated that their legal team is reviewing it. He also noted that some parents have ignored the union’s advice and sent their children to school. “Some schools are not following the standard timetable. While we trust principals are handling the situation well, parents must take responsibility. We have provided clear guidance,” Misori said.
KUPPET criticized TSC, accusing it of devaluing the teaching profession. “How can a commission, meant to manage teachers, now degrade the profession by informalizing employment?” Misori asked. He also accused TSC of neglecting teachers, highlighting that many have been stuck in the same job group for over 25 years. He called this situation immoral and blamed it on a negligent commission.
