Neighbors of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a 33-year-old resident of Kware in Nairobi’s Mukuru kwa Njenga slums, describe him as a quiet, reserved, and friendly individual. For the past two years, they have known him as a shy man who often hosted various women in his single-roomed house. This description contrasts with the recent allegations against him as a suspected serial killer.
Khalusha resided in a makeshift, three-story building with only the ground floor fully constructed. His single room contained a dismantled bed and mattress. Police allege he use to kill and dismember his victims. They claim Khalusha confessed to murdering 42 women between 2022 and his arrest in mid-2024.
A quarry, about 100 meters from Khalusha’s home, was where the bodies were discovered. During a court appearance, Khalusha says that police forced him into a confession through torture. The details of his alleged crimes are also still under investigation.
Homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have also meticulously searched the crime scene for evidence. This includes DNA traces. Despite the absence of a blood odor, the room was clean, with utensils on a small table.
DCI boss Mohammed Amin reported that Khalusha also confessed to killing his wife. By the name Judith Imelda Khalenya, whom he allegedly strangled, dismembered, and disposed of at the quarry. Unaware of his true activities, neighbors only knew Khalusha as a sales agent for a telecommunications company.
Neighbors Reports
Neighbors, like Anne Mutua, who has lived in the building for three years, described Khalusha as shy and mentioned his interactions with multiple women. Mutua noted that Khalusha was initially married, but his wife later left him.
Other neighbors, never witnessed any confrontations or heard screams from Khalusha’s house. This is despite his frequent interactions with women. Investigators plan to visit another residence in Kayole’s Soweto area, where Khalusha reportedly has another house.
On the day of his arrest, detectives, conducted an early morning operation at Khalusha’s residence. They collected various items, including clothes, handbags, shoes, SIM cards, smartphones, a laptop, and a machete. These items will undergo DNA analysis to establish connections to the victims. Mr. Amin mentions that the suspect’s arrest was facilitated by forensic analysis of a mobile phone belonging to one of the victims. Also revealing transactions conducted on the day she disappeared.
As the investigation continues, the true extent of Khalusha’s crimes is showing up, revealing a disturbing reality behind the facade of a seemingly shy and friendly neighbor.
