Kamala Harris and Tim Walz launched their first campaign event in Philadelphia. This marks the start of a battleground state tour. Walz shared his Nebraska roots and 24-year National Guard service. He also mentioned his time as a high school teacher and coach.
“My students encouraged me to run for office,” Walz said. He criticized Donald Trump and JD Vance for their divisive actions. “He mocks our laws and sows chaos,” Walz stated. “ Also, he failed during the Covid crisis and increased crime rates.” Kamala has significantly changed the campaign dynamics.
Walz also strongly defended women’s reproductive rights. “Mind your own damn business!” he declared. Harris praised Walz for his varied and inspiring roles. “He makes people feel they belong and inspires them,” Harris said. She highlighted his executive experience and military service.
The Kamala campaign raised over $20 million after announcing Walz. Pennsylvania is a crucial state for the election. Walz served in the House for 12 years before becoming governor. He championed progressive policies like free school meals and climate initiatives. Trump and Vance labeled Harris and Walz as radical. Vance criticized Walz’s handling of George Floyd protests.
Vance claimed Walz was too lenient during the riots. Vice-presidential picks can influence voters. Republican strategist Rina Shah said Walz was chosen to appeal to young voters.
Walz was picked over Pennsylvania’s Governor Josh Shapiro. Shapiro faced criticism for his support of Israel. Shapiro endorsed Walz, calling him a great patriot.
He promised to work hard for Harris’ election. Trump advisors are happy Harris didn’t choose Shapiro. Shapiro could have boosted Democratic chances in Pennsylvania.
