Kalonzo Commands Wiper MPs to Reject Ruto's Cabinet Nominees

Kalonzo Musyoka has instructed his party’s MPs to reject President William Ruto’s recent Cabinet nominees from the opposition. Speaking on Sunday, Kalonzo expressed his disapproval of the nomination of four prominent members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). This includes National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi having various Cabinet roles.

He criticized Wandayi for leaving his position to join the government. “I have given clear instructions. When these nominees are presented for Parliamentary approval, Wiper MPs should vote No.”  Musyoka declared this while in Kyuso, Mwingi North.

He urged Wiper MPs to reject the nominees both in committee and plenary sessions, insisting that this was necessary to uphold the Political Parties Act. Musyoka condemned the ODM leaders for betraying their constitutional duties and the trust of Kenyans. He expressed disappointment that Raila Odinga was now collaborating with the government.

“As a key partner in the Azimio coalition, Wiper believes ODM should have consulted them before making such a decision.”  Kalonzo added. Odinga clarified that these individuals joined Ruto’s Cabinet on their own and that neither ODM nor Azimio had formed a coalition agreement with Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party. In addition to Wandayi, President Ruto also nominated Ali Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, and John Mbandi for Cabinet positions.

In a press statement, Odinga said Azimio was awaiting clear terms for dialogue with Kenya Kwanza on national issues. “ODM remains committed to its principles of democracy, good governance, and social justice. These principles will always guide our decisions for the nation’s betterment,” Odinga’s statement read. Musyoka, whose party holds 25 seats in the National Assembly, expressed keen interest in seeing how ODM MPs would vote on the new Cabinet nominees.
