Israeli Forces Launch Deadly Operation in Jenin

The Israeli military carried out a major operation in Jenin. They killed at least eight Palestinians in the West Bank on Tuesday. This happened two days after the Gaza ceasefire began.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the operation, called “Iron Wall.” The military, police, and Shin Bet security agency participated. The goal was to eliminate “terrorism in Jenin.” Hamas called for resistance against Israeli forces across the West Bank.

Israeli warplanes bombed Jenin, according to Wafa. Ground forces, including snipers and armored vehicles, surrounded the refugee camp. Ambulances could not enter. Videos showed armored vehicles and bulldozers entering the area.

The identities of the eight killed remain unclear. Locals said at least two were unarmed civilians. Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed its fighters were resisting Israeli forces.

The group accused Netanyahu of using the operation for political gain. They said it aimed to disrupt celebrations over released Palestinian prisoners. Hamas and Islamic Jihad urged further resistance.

This operation follows another deadly campaign in the West Bank earlier this year. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said securing the West Bank is now a war priority.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reported 35 injuries. Victims were taken to hospitals in Jenin. Violence has increased in the West Bank since the recent ceasefire.

The United Nations raised concerns over escalating violence. They criticized attacks by settlers, often supported by the military. B’Tselem condemned these actions as organized assaults on Palestinians.
