Impeachment Motion Against DP Gachagua

A major political event is unfolding in Kenya. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula is set to address a motion of impeachment of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Former UDA secretary-general Cleophas Malala and other petitioners initiated this motion. They aim to hold the DP accountable for alleged constitutional violations and misconduct.

Some petitioners aslo tried to block the motion in court. Their efforts failed, allowing the process to continue. At least 300 Members of Parliament have signed the petition. This number exceeds the required one-third of the National Assembly’s 349 members. The motion claims Gachagua violated national values, especially concerning unity and governance.

The Speaker will notify the House about the motion. He will also outline the next steps for discussion. A two-thirds majority is essential for the motion to pass. If it does, the matter will escalate to the Senate.

As the impeachment plans develops, it shows Kenya’s complex political landscape. Ongoing tensions and governance challenges mark the environment. The outcome of this motion could significantly impact the country’s leadership and political stability.

Within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition, concerns have arisen over the motion’s sponsorship. Discussions focus on its implications for the Deputy President’s future. His past comments and actions are under scrutiny, adding to the push for his removal.
