The Kisumu-Kakamega road is especially accident-prone, Iguhu Bridge being one of the spots. In July 2024, a lorry carrying wooden planks overturned at Mamboleo, killing two people. Witnesses said the driver lost control, causing the lorry to slide into a ditch.

As Kenyans prepare for the festive season, travel demand is high. Bus and matatu companies are reactivating grounded vehicles to meet demand.
