Hezbollah has confirmed that Israeli forces killed its leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, in an airstrike in Beirut. The group announced his death after Israel reported eliminating him the day before. Nasrallah’s death delivers a major blow to Hezbollah and Iran, as he played a key role in expanding the group’s regional influence. Despite the loss, Hezbollah vowed to continue its fight against Israel in support of Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon.
The Israeli military claimed responsibility for the strike, which targeted Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of Beirut, on Friday. The airstrike also killed senior commander Ali Karaki and other leaders. Israel reported that Hezbollah’s leadership was coordinating attacks against Israeli civilians from the location when the strike occurred.
This event marks a severe setback for Hezbolah, which has suffered numerous Israeli attacks in recent weeks. Israeli airstrikes have killed several key commanders and caused extensive damage in Lebanon. The strike in Dahiyeh created a large crater, according to Lebanese security sources. (Reuters)
