Recent reports indicate that Vice President Kamala Harris leads former President Donald Trump ahead of the November 5 U.S. presidential election. For the past two months, Harris has maintained a comfortable lead. However, Trump has gained ground recently, even taking the lead in key swing states that will likely determine the election outcome.
Many states consistently vote either Democrat or Republican. Battleground states like Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Wisconsin are highly competitive. These states can swing either way in each election cycle.
Last week, Trump continued his campaign rhetoric, criticizing both President Joe Biden and Harris. Despite Biden not seeking re-election, Trump’s supporters reacted strongly, as seen during an event in Manhattan. Trump disparaged minority communities, making offensive remarks that drew criticism.
In a viral video, Trump claimed that Biden planned to retire in Zanzibar. He joked about contacting the president of Zanzibar to check on Biden.
This came after a comedian’s offensive joke at a Trump rally in New York. The remark provoked backlash, even among moderate Republicans. Trump campaigned in Allentown, Pennsylvania, home to a significant population of Puerto Ricans. Local leaders expressed outrage, warning that this could mobilize voters.
Trump’s campaign later held a rally in Allentown to counter the backlash, yet he did not denounce the comedian’s remarks. His campaign claimed that the joke does not reflect Trump’s views.
Harris is seen as a candidate who can steer the U.S. away from hate and extremism. Immigrants and minority groups have voiced strong support for her. However, some caution against premature optimism regarding her victory, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of elections.
