Kamala Harris has expanded her lead over Republican Donald Trump. An Ipsos poll released on Thursday shows Harris ahead by 45% to 41%. This marks an increase in voter enthusiasm for her as the November 5 election nears. The four-point lead is up from a one-point advantage in late July.
The eight-day poll has a margin of error of two percentage points. It highlights Harris’s growing support among women and Hispanic voters. She now leads Trump by 49% to 36% among these groups, a significant jump from previous polls. Trump still leads among White voters and men. However, his lead among non-college-educated voters has dropped to seven points, down from 14 points in July.
President Joe Biden, 81, ended his campaign on July 21 after a poor debate performance. This decision followed pressure from his party to step aside. Since then, Harris has gained momentum in national polls, especially in key swing states.
In seven critical battleground states, Trump holds a narrow 45% to 43% lead over Harris. However, a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll shows Harris either leading or tied with Trump in these states. She holds a two-point lead among registered voters and is in a statistical tie among likely voters.
Since accepting the Democratic nomination, Harris has toured several battleground states, including Georgia. According to the Ipsos poll, 73% of Democratic voters are more excited about voting in November with Harris in the race. Additionally, 52% of Harris’s supporters are backing her as a candidate, rather than simply opposing Trump. This is a shift from earlier polls, where stopping Trump was a stronger motivator.
