Kamala Harris’ aimed for the White House with a historic campaign. She promised a strong message but struggled to connect with working-class voters. Economic concerns also hindered her progress. In September, she met with leaders of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Harris vowed to protect union jobs better than Donald Trump. However, union leaders doubted her commitment. In a rare move, they declined to endorse a Democratic candidate, publicly hurting her campaign.
After Joe Biden unexpectedly left the race, Harris quickly assembled her campaign. She advocated for democracy, women’s rights, and a populist economic vision. As the first woman of color to lead a major party ticket, she made history. Her campaign inspired enthusiasm, raised record funds, and drew celebrity endorsements. But concerns about inflation and immigration ultimately favored Trump.
Harris’ loss shows a shift in American politics. More blue-collar voters now lean Republican. Misinformation also plagued her campaign, amplified by Trump’s team and right-wing media. This impacted her control over her message. Her team noted that she focused on issues important to women and Black voters. She emphasized reproductive rights, middle-class tax cuts, and housing affordability over her identity.
Despite her push on social issues, economic anxiety dominated voters’ minds. Trump’s stance on these issues helped him win. He gained 279 electoral votes to Harris’ 223. Her historic bid for the presidency came to a challenging end
