The government aims to secure the AUC chairmanship for Raila Odinga. President Ruto announced Odinga as Kenya’s candidate. The government then set up a campaign secretariat. South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir, endorsed Odinga. Uganda’s President Museveni, Tanzania’s President Samia, Burundi’s Prime Minister Ndirakobuca, and Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Kabarebe also support him.
Dr. Korir Sing’oei and Mr. Elkanah Odembo lead the campaign. They are determined to win this position for Odinga. This week, Ruto, Mudavadi, and Odinga will attend the FOCAC summit in Beijing. The event runs from September 4 to 6. It offers a platform to present Odinga’s case to African leaders. Dr. Sing’oei sees this as a prime opportunity for Odinga to share his vision for Africa.
Odinga’s campaign includes a five-month strategy. He is traveling across Africa to meet with presidents. The secretariat seeks support from current and former Heads of State, ministers, and youth organizations. They are especially active on social media. The government is mobilizing ambassadors and influencers to back Odinga. Though the budget is undisclosed, Mr. Mudavadi confirmed that funds are secured.
