Germany to Send 100,000 Mpox Vaccine Doses to Africa

Germany is set to donate 100,000 doses of mpox vaccine to Africa. This initiative aims to control the outbreak and assist affected countries. They will use vaccines from its military stockpile. This contribution will provide immediate help, according to a government representative.

The initiative will also give flexible financial support to the World Health Organization (WHO). The funds will help fight mpox and support partners in Africa. The GAVI vaccination alliance will also receive assistance. The German military holds about 117,000 doses of the Jynneos vaccine, acquired in 2022.

Germany will reserve a portion of the vaccines to protect officials traveling internationally. The government will decide later on ordering more vaccines.

The WHO has declared mpox a global public health emergency. The outbreak began in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and spread to neighboring regions. Germany donation and support are crucial for managing the crisis and providing aid where it’s most needed.
