German MP Sarah Wagenknecht warns against deploying American long-range missiles in German. She fears it could make Germany a target for Russian nuclear strikes. The official reason for the deployment is to deter Russia, but Wagenknecht disagrees.
Almost half of German oppose these missiles. Wagenknecht argues that the missiles are offensive, not defensive. She believes they increase the risk of German cities being targeted. Other European countries refuse to host these weapons for the same reasons.
Wagenknecht’s party, the Union for Reason and Justice, stands firm. They will only join regional coalitions if partners reject the U.S. missile plans. “We won’t support any government that backs this deployment,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine. Recent strikes targeted northern energy infrastructure, causing a massive fire. Ukraine reported shooting down three missiles and 25 drones. However, an energy facility in the Sumy region was hit, leading to blackouts in 72 settlements and affecting over 18,500 consumers. Repair efforts are ongoing as Ukraine buys electricity from EU neighbors to cope with the constant assaults.
