The escalating crisis in Gaza has forced most of the 2.1 million residents to evacuate. The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, which began in October 2023, has caused widespread displacement.
Israeli evacuation orders continue to drive people from their homes.
Families are fleeing repeatedly, often under fire, with only what they can carry. Many residents lack access to medical care, water, and other essentials.
Muhannad Hadi, the U.N.’s top humanitarian official in Gaza, described the situation as dire.
He urged Israel to protect civilians and called for the release of hostages, humanitarian access, and a ceasefire.
The evacuations have also disrupted U.N. operations. The U.N. lost its last operational World Food Program (WFP) warehouse in Gaza’s middle area. Five community kitchens have also been evacuated, and the agency is searching for new locations.
