The Middle East conflict escalated on the anniversary of the Gaza war. On Monday, Hezbollah launched rockets at Haifa, Israel’s third-largest city. Israel prepared to expand its ground operations into southern Lebanon. Hezbollah, allied with Hamas, claimed it targeted a military base near Haifa and another location in Tiberias.
These attacks intensified fears of a broader conflict involving the U.S. and Iran. Israeli forces confirmed that rockets hit Haifa and Tiberias. They intercepted some of the missiles. The attacks injured a few people and damaged buildings.
In response, Israel struck Hezbollah sites in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Airstrikes destroyed weapon storage areas and command centers. The conflict has grown since Hezbollah started supporting Hamas last year. Clashes that were once limited to the border now spread further.
Israelis commemorated last year’s Hamas attack on Monday. The assault killed over 1,200 people and took hundreds hostage. Israeli authorities tightened security to prevent attacks during the memorial.
The Gaza war expanded into a regional crisis. Iran and its allies joined the conflict. Israeli strikes in Lebanon caused thousands of deaths and mass displacement. Recent missile exchanges between Iran and Israel worsened tensions. Many fear this Middle East conflict could ignite a full scale regional war. (Reuters)
