Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua vowed not to resign despite impeachment efforts. He accused President William Ruto of pushing MPs to remove him. Gachagua said he and Mt. Kenya people have heavily invested in the government. He urged Ruto to clarify if Mt. Kenya votes are no longer needed.
Speaking in Ngurubani, Kirinyaga County, he also assured the crowd he wouldn’t step down. He stressed that he and Ruto were elected together, and their term runs until 2027. Gachagua asked Ruto to let him continue his work. He wants to focus on solving the country’s problems, including unfinished projects from the previous government.
Rigathi said his impeachment is due to his push for Mt. Kenya’s development. He highlighted his support for coffee, tea, and rice farmers. He claimed his opponents want to weaken the region politically.
Gachagua, joined by local leaders, urged residents to reject MPs supporting his removal. He called them traitors. Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu backed him. Nyutu urged Ruto to stop the impeachment efforts.
