Dr. Joyce Gatiria Njagi-Kithure, wife of Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, stepped into the spotlight as she greeted dignitaries at her husband’s inauguration. Known for her low profile, Dr. Kithure’s polite handshakes drew attention. Supporting her right hand with her left, she resembled a teacher greeting students—a nod to her background in education.
Dr. Kithure began her career teaching chemistry and mathematics after studying at Moi University. Unlike Mrs. Gachagua, wife of impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who moved into banking, Dr. Kithure stayed in education. She is now a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi, where she has mentored over 21 postgraduate students. Her work includes impactful publications in analytical and environmental chemistry. She holds a master’s in analytical chemistry from Kenyatta University (2007) and a PhD in environmental chemistry from UoN (2013). She has also authored three textbooks.
Dr. Kithure, a spiritual person, has publicly shared her faith. She and Prof. Kindiki have three children: Imani, Neema, and Mwende. In his speech, Prof. Kindiki thanked her for raising their family while he served the nation.
Now, Dr. Kithure steps into a more public role. Although her position has no funding, she may take up projects and establish a media presence. As she adapts to public life, the nation will watch closely.
