Douglas Kanja awaits vetting for the police IG position. Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho is to be vetted jointly by the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defense, and Foreign Relations. And the National Assembly Committee on Administration and Internal Security for the post of Inspector General of Police.
William Cheptumo (Baringo County) and Gabriel Tongoyo, MP (Narok West), will co-chair the Thursday vetting session.
Douglas Kanja was nominated by President William Ruto for the Inspector General when Japhet Koome resigned on July 12, 2024.
Kanja brings an impressive background to the table, having had a notable career spanning almost forty years. Since he started working in law enforcement in 1985, Kanja has advanced through the ranks consistently.
Previously he held General Service Unit (GSU) Commandant for five years and the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service. Kanja also served as Kilifi County’s County Police Commander and as the GSU’s Deputy Commandant for three years. Douglas Kanja awaits vetting for police IG position
