Arab Americans Refuse to Show Support for Trump and Harris

Arab Americans have rejected Vice-President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. They oppose their support for Israel in the Gaza and Lebanon conflicts. The Arab American Political Action Committee (AAPAC) will not endorse either candidate in the November 5 election. This marks the first time AAPAC has not backed a candidate since its founding in 1998. AAPAC usually supports Democrats, but this year, they criticize both Harris and Trump for their “blind support” of Israel.

Arab and Muslim Americans, who mostly backed President Joe Biden in 2020, now oppose U.S. policies favoring Israel. Trump’s support in this community remains low due to his past statements and travel ban on Muslim-majority countries. Harris also faces criticism for backing Israel. Many in these communities have lost relatives in Gaza and Lebanon. Analysts believe this could hurt Harris, as some voters may choose a third-party candidate or not vote at all.

Harris has attacked Trump’s comments about “the enemy within.” She accused him of creating division and risking democracy. Harris also demanded that Trump release his health records, questioning his stability. During her visit to Pennsylvania, she aimed to engage Black voters. She proposed forgivable small business loans and support for the legal marijuana industry to gain their support.

Trump hinted at using the military against perceived domestic threats, raising concerns about his intentions. Harris’s campaign fears a decline in Black voter support. Some polls show a growing number of Black men leaning towards Trump. Both candidates now struggle to win over these key voter groups before the election. (Reuters)
