Russian cargo plane left Khmeimim Airport in Syria earlier. It reportedly carried military equipment out of the country. A Russian Ka-52 combat helicopter escorted the plane during takeoff.
Israel has seized 368.3 square kilometers of Syrian territory. It has advanced since the fall of the Assad regime. Israeli forces are now less than 20 kilometers from Damascus, Syria’s capital.
Reports from Lebanon say the Israeli military advanced into Al-Naqoura town in the past 48 hours. This is a significant move, as the city was untouched during previous conflicts. Israeli forces have started clearing operations in the area. Arab media reports say that IDF officers have met with village leaders in southern Syria.
IDF aircraft carried out over 61 airstrikes on Syrian territory in less than five hours. The strikes are still ongoing. Over the weekend, IDF officers visited village elders in Quneitra, a district in the buffer zone. They reassured residents about their safety and daily lives.
A company commander from the IDF’s 7th Armored Brigade confirmed reaching Umm Batnah village. It is seven miles from the Israeli border. The officer asked the village chief to collect weapons taken from abandoned Syrian military posts.
Ahmad al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammed al-Julani, addressed Israel on Saturday. He rejected Israeli involvement in Syria. “Syria needs laws and state institutions,” he said. “We have a plan to address all crises without engaging in conflict with Israel.”
IDF Chief of Staff General Herzi Halevi rejected claims of interference. “We do not interfere in Syria’s internal affairs or intend to govern it,” he said. “However, we are committed to securing Israeli citizens living near the Golan Heights. (Aljazeera)
